WhenIwas19yearsold,myfatherpassedawayafterafour-yearbattlewithcancer.Atthetime,Iwasincollegepursuingadegreeinministry,andhisdeathcompletelyshookthefoundationofmylife.AlthoughIgraduated,Inevertrulydealtwiththegrief.Instead,Ibecameangry,bitter,anddisillusioned.

Intheyearsthatfollowed,Iwalkedawayfrommyfaithandembracedatheism.IspentnearlyadecaderunningfromGodandthecallingHehadplacedonmylife.Isearchedforpurpose,identity,andfulfillmentineverythingbutChrist.Ipursuedpride,self-gratification,andworldlysuccess,believingtheywouldfilltheemptinessIcarried.Instead,theyonlyleftmemorebroken.
Intheyearsthatfollowed,Iwalkedawayfrommyfaithandembracedatheism.IspentnearlyadecaderunningfromGodandthecallingHehadplacedonmylife.Isearchedforpurpose,identity,andfulfillmentineverythingbutChrist.Ipursuedpride,self-gratification,andworldlysuccess,believingtheywouldfilltheemptinessIcarried.Instead,theyonlyleftmemorebroken.
Duringthoseyears,Imademanypoordecisionsthathurtbothmyselfandothers.IfoundmyselftrappedinaddictionandlivingalifefarremovedfromthevaluesIonceheld.ThefurtherIdriftedfromGod,themoreIlostsightofwhoHehadcreatedmetobe.
